Spaying/Neutering ("Altering")

These are surgical procedures that are routinely performed by our skilled surgeons.  In addition to reducing the number of unwanted puppies & kittens in our neighborhoods, also provide long-term health and behavioral benefits.  Altering your pet can significantly reduced their risk of certain types of cancer.  For our female pets, spaying eliminates the heat cycle, causing less of a tendency to roam.  Males will generally exhibit better social behaviors after being neutered, such as less aggression and reduced tendency to mark their territory.

We recommend spaying/neutering your pet before 6 months of age.  This will reduce the likelihood of them developing bad behaviors or creating unwanted litters.  Even older pets will benefit from this procedure as long as they are otherwise healthy.

Pet Dentistry & Dental Care

At Town & Country Veterinary Care we believe that good oral health is the bedrock upon which good general health and longevity are built.  Your pet's dental health can greatly impact their overall health as well as improve their breath and oral appearance.  To complement your regular home care routine, we also perform dental cleanings for dogs and cats.  During these procedures we evaluate your pet's dental health both above and below the gum line.  Our dental cleanings include a thorough oral exam, full-mouth digital xrays, ultrasonic scaling, professional polishing and fluoride treatment.

General & Orthopedic Surgery

All of our doctors are trained, veterinary surgeons. Together with our experienced technicians and our modern, well-equipped surgery suites, we offer safe, surgical procedures including general soft-tissue, orthopedic, and oral surgeries.

Diagnostic Services

Both of our locations are well-equipped with modern imaging and laboratory equipment. Our in-house digital x-ray (including dental radiography) and ultrasound equipment allow us to provide a wide range of services from emergency evaluations to cardiac assessments. All of our dental patients receive a radiological assessment of their dental health below the gum line where most dental disease can occur.

Our in-house laboratory equipment provides our patients the benefit of rapid complete blood counts, biochemistry analysis, electrocardiograms ( ECG), and coagulation profiles. We also can consult with expert specialists using our telemedicine capabilities. For our senior pets (over seven years old), we emphasize preventative medicine by offering detailed, geriatric screening using imaging, ECGs and laboratory evaluations.

Our diagnostic services allow us to provide better assessments of your pet's internal health and to respond more rapidly with the proper treatment.

Rabies Quarantine & Contagious Pet Isolation

Our Bandera Rd. Hospital has secure facilities for pets that have been ordered into quarantine due to bite incidents. Our facilities are modern, clean and in the heart of our hospital.  These confined pets are monitored and cared for by our staff until the completion of their quarantine period. Additionally, we have separate isolation facilities for those seriously ill or highly contagious pets. Both the quarantine and isolation facilities can accommodate large dogs.

Travel/Health Certificates

For those pets traveling within the United States or internationally, we can provide the appropriate, required health certificates. We also can assist in navigating the complex Hawaiian pet entry procedures and the United Kingdom Pet Travel Scheme. Several of our vets are USDA accreditedand our experienced staff will help walk you through the process.

It is important to plan ahead for travel with your pets!  Several countries, including Hawaii, many weeks to even months of lead time and preparations.  Be sure to visit the USDA's website to learn about the specific requirements for your travel destination.

Pet I.D. Microchipping & Recovery

It is a tragedy that so many pets are lost and not recovered every day. Over 10 million lost pets never return home each year. Only 16 percent of dogs and 2 percent of cats entering animal care and control facilities are reclaimed each year. More than 70 percent of animals found do not have collars.

To help give our patients the best chance to be reunited with their owners should they become lost, we participate in the American Kennel Club (AKC) Companion Animal Recovery (CAR) Service. This service consists of a microchip that is the size of grain of rice that has an unalterable, unique 32-digit code. It is inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades. This chip is a passive device.  When scanned it transmits the programmed code. If your pet is ever found and scanned by an animal control facility or veterinarian, the AKC Pet Recovery Service can be contacted 24 hours a day. Your pet can then be identified by the microchip code and you will be contacted. An average of 7,000 pets are recovered each week due to microchip recovery systems.

Remember - It is important to keep your contact information updated with your pet's microchip registration company as you move or change phone numbers over the years!

In the unfortunate event that you may lose your pet, please use this form to send us the information so we can post online.  If you prefer, you can call our office to notify them as well.
